    This medicine is used as an emergency contraceptive pill in women. It contains Levonorgestrel, which is a Progestin. It works by preventing the release of an egg from the ovary or preventing fertilization of the egg by sperm (male reproductive cells).

    This medicine is indicated as an emergency contraceptive pill in women. It helps:

    • To prevent pregnancy after having unprotected sexual intercourse.
    • Prevents or delays the release of an egg from the ovaries till the time sperm are active in the female’s body.
    • Reduces the chances of fertilization by changing the way in which sperm moves inside a female’s body.

    Note: This medicine does not make it difficult to get pregnant later.

  • Dosage

    Take one tablet at a time. The medication works best if taken within 72 hours of having unprotected intercourse. Take your first dose immediately after intercourse and the second dose 12 hours later. Women who weigh more than 70kgs may need to take 2 tablets at a time for better results.

  • In case of Overdose

    Overdose symptoms include breast tenderness, discolored urine, drowsiness, heavy vaginal bleeding (2 to 7 days after the overdose), headache, emotional changes, nausea and vomiting. If you think you have used too much of this medicine, talk to your doctor. Seek medical emergency help immediately.

  • Missed Dose

    If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

  • How To Use

    This medication is also known as a "morning-after pill", but you shouldn't wait until the morning to take the tablet. Take the tablet as soon as possible after having unprotected intercourse. The efficacy of the tablet is within 72 hours and declines after 120 hours.

  • When Not to Use

    Don’t use this medication if you ever had or have:

    • Blood clots, an inherited blood disorder, or vein inflammation.
    • Breast cancer
    • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
    • Stroke, heart attack, angina, or other heart-related diseases
    • Allergy to any component of the medicine
    • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
    • Migraines
  • Side Effects

    Common side effects include:

    • Severe abdominal pain
    • Heavy menstrual bleeding
    • Spotting or bleeding between periods
    • Nausea and Vomiting
    • Unusual tiredness and weakness
    • Dizziness
    • Breast pain and tenderness
    • Change in libido
    • Diarrhea
  • Precautions & Warnings

    Understand these precautions and warnings before starting the medication:

    • About 1-2 out of every 100 women who take these pills may become pregnant despite taking the tablet within 72 hours.
    • Your period may become lighter or heavier than usual, and regular use of contraceptives may make the period irregular.
    • Women who become pregnant or complain of lower abdominal pain after taking • • Levonorgestrel tablets should get evaluated for ectopic pregnancy.
    • Levonorgestrel tablets do not terminate an existing pregnancy.
    • Levonorgestrel tablets do not protect against STI/HIV.
  • Drug Interactions

    Drugs or herbal products that induce certain enzymes, such as CYP3A4, may decrease the effectiveness of progestin-only pills.

  • Food Interaction

    You should limit your consumption of grapefruit and grapefruit juice while on this medication.

  • Storage/Disposal

    Store the medicine at room temperature and keep out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and animals. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
