Primary Uses

Indications

This medicine is used in the treatment of severe cystic acne and acne which is unresponsive to antibiotic therapy.

Side Effects

This medicine may have the following side effects: dryness and erosion of mucosa, alopecia (patch baldness), disrupted liver function, nausea, headache, drowsiness, sweating, mood swings, neurological disorders, menstrual irregularity, myalgia (muscle pain), arthralgia (joint pain), and presence of blood and protein in the urine. Occasionally; hearing loss, visual disturbances, and blood dyscrasias.

This medicine's use is prohibited for pregnant women

Lactation

It is advised for nursing mothers to observe caution while using this medicine as its effects are undetermined

Precautions

Females of childbearing age should only use this medicine if all contraceptive measures are taken one month before, during, and four weeks after using this medicine. Patients with underlying liver conditions are advised to monitor their liver functions and enzymes regularly while using isotretinoin. Similarly, continuous monitoring of fasting serum lipids and signs of depression and suicidal ideation is also recommended. Discontinue treatment in cases of large disruptions in the results. Any skin treatments including dermabrassion and wax epilation must be avoided as well. There is a risk for serious skin reactions, which must be reported immediately. Contraindications
